Stockholm Environment Institute

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an international non-profit research institute that tackles climate, environment and sustainable development challenges, with its global headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, and regional centers across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. SEI bridges science, policy, and practice to promote environmental sustainability and social equity. It works closely with governments, civil society, and the private sector, providing evidence-based research, policy support, and capacity-building. Key focus areas include : climate change, natural resources, water, air, and health, and addresses questions of governance, innovation, finance, poverty, gender equality and social equity.

National Drought Management Authority (NDMA)

The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) is a Kenyan state corporation established under the NDMA Act of 2016. Its primary mandate is to coordinate and implement drought risk management and climate change adaptation strategies, particularly in the country's arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), which cover over 80% of Kenya's landmass.

Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is a leading scientific research institute based in Potsdam, Germany. It conducts advanced research on global environmental change, with a particular focus on climate change and its ecological, economic, and social impacts.

Capabilities and experiences relevant to the project
Modelling of water, energy and food/biomass scenarios using the Nexus toolkit (WEAP and LEAP models)

Function/role in the project proposed
Supporting the development of climate, water, energy, and food/biomass scenarios, simulating different interventions and development pathways, using the Nexus toolkit and other tools.

Merti Integrated Development Programme (MID-P)

The Merti Integrated Development Programme (MID-P) is a community-based organization operating primarily in northern Kenya, especially in Isiolo County. MID-P focuses on promoting sustainable development, peacebuilding, and natural resource management among pastoralist communities.

As an implementing partner and subcontractor in various development projects, MID-P plays a key role in facilitating grassroots engagement, mobilizing local communities, and implementing field activities. Their work often includes conflict resolution, capacity building, climate adaptation, and livelihood support, ensuring that local knowledge and priorities are integrated into project design and implementation.

Knowledge management, capacity building, local governance, community development and facilitation of stakeholder processes at the grassroots level

Function/role in the project proposed
Knowledge co-creation, community mobilisation, mutual learning and ca-pacity strengthening for stakeholders from the local community.

Centre for Training and Integrated Research in ASAL Development (CETRAD)

CETRAD serves as a hub for research, training, and policy engagement aimed at promoting sustainable development in Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs). Its core activities include conducting interdisciplinary research on natural resource management, offering capacity-building programs for government and non-governmental stakeholders, and facilitating the integration of scientific knowledge into policy and practice. The institution emphasizes participatory approaches, combining scientific research with community engagement to address challenges related to water resources, land use, and climate change adaptation.

Natural resource management in Arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), Re-search, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Database management

Function/role in the project proposed
Data generation and collation (provision of long term high density GIS based socio-ecological data), stakeholder analysis, mobilisation, sensitisation, and engagement at the sub-national level.
